Dad's Boat

For those of you who do not know, Dad is building a boat. It is a design by Glenn-l. They call it a Sweet Caroline. The type of boat is an East Coast Dory; used by fisherman for hundreds of years. By adding the decking, gunwales and rear hatches the boat looks a lot like a “captains launch” or “picnic launch”. Dad liked the lines so he added the decking, rails, hatches, inboard, center console, and seating he had turned this simple design into a 1 of a kind boat.

When you first see it you are drawn to the shiny wood finish. It calls to you and makes you want to feel it and run your hands along it. After the initial shock of how beautiful it is, you begin to notice the detail of each piece of wood and how they are cut, molded and bent to fit perfectly along the top of the boat. The yellow you see behind the steering wheel is the same yellow that runs along the outside of the boat.

The steering wheel was crafted piece by piece and each turning was done by Dad. He has scrounged around Popey's, Scott's and Jr's to find different pieces that are needed and used in different areas of the boat.

You can't help but to be in complete awe of this work of art and words can not express simply enough the craftsmanship that went into it.

Mom is in the process of making cushions for the seats that will bring a touch of her into the project and will also offer comfort for those lucky enough to find themselves riding along the water in this show piece.

That boat is a work of art. You've got to put up more pictures when you get a chance.
