Scott and I had the pleasure of going to a Flogging Molly concert on Thursday night with Walter (it was his idea) and Kati and their friends R & C.... Mr. X and Pam were supposed to go but were unable. It was great fun (well... great fun in that "I'm much to old to be doing this" kind of way!)
The "local" color while waiting in line was very interesting. Let me tell you in down town Atl there are plenty of people who just want to "help" you find your way, give you information and separate you from your dollar (or ten, or just change).... We did well and met up with our party and then managed to sell the two extra tickets we had.
We got our drink bands (after a trip back to the car) and really felt like we were 21 again! HAha!
W. was determined to get right up in front and we managed to get there with a great view of the stage; with one exception..... The "Great Kerns Wall" in front of us. Being that Kati and I are just over 5' we each has positioned ourselves on either side of his arm so as to see the stage.
The first band started and the "moshing" was tame and not so bad. The band was good and Kati and I had determined that they were in fact, our four boys in about 10 or so years... The band was from Dublin and it was neat to hear them talk. I asked Kerns to "bow up" and spread his arms to give us all some room and from in front of us I heard; "would not be such a bad thing, he has the wingspan of a Condor!" (that phrase made me laugh and I just had to include it someplace....)
Between the first and second band we were standing in the middle of heat, sweat and bodies and "SWEET JESUS" came out of Kati's mouth... This phrase is now universally recognized as "Holly shit, someone just farted and boy does it stink!"...
The second band was really good and they are from Nashville... Indiana.... Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band in our van and it was just a husband and a wife and a brother on drums and they were uniquely interesting and the moshing... Well lets just say was a little rougher but thanks to the "Great Kerns Wall" we survived.....
When the phrase "It's about to get bad" crosses anyone's lips you should really stand up and take notice to ask more questions and find out more about WHY it is "about to get bad"....... Little did we know what was coming.
Flogging Molly hit the stage and "it's about to get bad" turned into HOLLY SHIT, GET US OUT OF HERE...... At one point "The Great Kerns Wall" started to tumble and I thought.... "Wow are we in trouble.." K had a mini stroke combined with a panic attack and out she went; to the point where the security guard was going to lift her out between us and the stage... To which she said "No" and he helped her out in back of the gate, making everyone move out of the way....... We "slithered" literally through slimy bodies to catch up with her and get out of the thick of it. Let's just say that it was a learning experience and we will remember in the future to go to the upper seats and watch the chaos from above, safe and comfortable.....
The rest of the show was seen from the upper balcony and although we could not see alot at that point it was much better than getting crushed where we were at.
We got out and got to our cars, again accosted by "local color" who just needed change for a hot dog, money for milk for the baby or general money for anything....
Kati and Walter got into their car and we got into ours and tried our best to locate 75N to get to Mark's house..... We passed a million signs for I20 where Kati and Walter needed to be and when I called to check on them to see if they had found their way they were stuck in an empty gas stations (EFO?? I have no idea what she was saying) but she asked me to stay on the phone with her until Walter fixed the flat that they had. Thankfully the "local color" did not find them there and they were able to change the tire and get on the road without much problem. Uggg... We hated it for them but we were already on 75 heading North.
My body feels like a dump truck came to stop upon it and then proceeded to back up and pull forward until every part was battered and bruised......
Check back because photos coming shortly when K gets back and actually downloads her photos off her camera and shoots me a couple..... Needless to say it was a crazy night but it sure was fun..... And BTW, what is this freekin ringing in my ears and when will it go away????? WOW! I am too old to be in the "thick" of Mosh Pits!
For those that don't know:
"Moshing refers to the activity in which audience members at live music performances aggressively push or slam into each other. Moshing is frequently accompanied by stage diving, crowd surfing, and headbanging. It is commonly associated with concerts by heavy metal, punk rock, and alternative rock artists, although it occurs at performances by musicians of all sorts of genres."
