Our home school trip went to Travelers Rest on Friday..... We actually fit 3 field trips into one day and went to Travelers Rest, a tour of a radio station and a visit to Tallulah falls.
It was a long day but great fun.... Travelers Rest was neat and we enjoyed seeing the old Inn and hear the stories of the past.
Our tour guide unfortunately was a very old chap who did not exactly know how to waiver away from his "script" and speak to elementary school children. If my boys got anything out of his monotone, droany way of speaking we will be lucky but it was interesting regardless. Some of the interesting things we saw were the old beds, the cradle made out of one solid part of a tree, and the spot where a doctor
had come down from PA and carved his name above the fire place in one of the bedrooms where he was treating someone for TB. (I will remember who and add it later)
There was a table made of marble that was kept in a cooler room of the house and
things that needed to stay cold was put on the table to keep them that way....When we were through with the tour we headed outside and the kids ran and then while we were waiting to use the facilities, the boys all gathered to observe a snail....

unfortunately, a little tiny bit of amusement that held their attention better than our old tour guide did.
